Please note that all products listed below, except some of the Figma plugins, are free to install. However, if any of them require you to get an API Key from OpenAI, then there is a very small charge for its usage.

*NEW* Generating code from Figma diagrams.

Things are getting even more interesting in the use of AI to develop software, and generating code straight from design diagrams is pretty mind blowing. But is it just marketing hype? Check it out here.

GPT4Free

Instead of paying $AU33 per month to use ChatGPT Plus, a developer by the name of xtecky developed a system which gives you a ChatGPT-like web page where you can enter your prompts and it will return the result using the GPT-4 service.

I've installed it and made it available to run from my own public-facing server. One problem I've found with it is, if you're likely to get a fairly large result returned, you get an error message simply saying Unable to fetch the response, Please try again.

You can run GPT4Free here.

The drawback is that they have been threatened with a lawsuit by OpenAI so it might not be available for very long.
More information is available here. You can also build it yourself by getting the source code from here.

Here's a few other ways to get GPT4 for free.

CustomGPT

CustomGPT enables you to build your own ChatGPT instance with your own data.

How to install your own CustomGPT for you own use.

Go to the CustomGPT page

I've loaded a booklet I wrote entitled, "Architecture and Engineering in Business and IT", into this Custom ChatGPT instance. The booklet looks at the challenges facing Software Engineering, where we are failing, what are software engineers and architects anyway (are there any similarities with Building Architects and Engineers for instance), and how we could succeed better. (This is gleaned from my tertiary qualifications and professional experience in both Civil Engineering and Software Engineering.)

If you would like to read the booklet you can access it here

However, history books are the “Manuals of Life”, and unfortunately most of us don’t like reading manuals. Therefore, instead of reading this booklet, you can just ask the Custom ChatGPT any questions you may have about, as the topic of this booklet suggests, architecture and engineering in business and IT.

Auto-GPT

Auto-GPT, when given a role and objective, can work towards achieving that objective step by step.

I wrote a review of Auto-GPT which also contains instructions on how to install and run it. This can be seen here.

MetaGPT

MetaGPT, an app to build GPT-powered microapps.

What the hell does that mean? Find out here.

CodeGPT

CodeGPT is an AI assistant that lives inside VS Code.

Axolotl

Axolotl, as in "Axolotl questions", is a mobile phone app I've written, for both the iPhone and Android phone, that behaves much like Siri but communicates with the GPT-4 service. On the screen it looks like ChatGPT but allows the user to ask questions by voice or keyboard entry and, when the result is returned from GPT-4, displays the result and reads it aloud.

I haven't made these apps publicly available as I get billed by OpenAI for Axolotl's use of their GPT-4 service. The usage cost is very small but would start to get quite expensive if there were more than about 50 regular users.

Installing Axolotl on your iPhone

In order to install Axolotl on your iPhone, please send me your email address (relating to your Apple ID) and I'll register you in Apple TestFlight. You will then get an invitation to download and install the app on your iPhone.

Installing Axolotl on your Android phone

In order to install Axolotl on your Android phone, please send me your email address (it needs to be a Gmail address, but not necessarily ending in @gmail.com) and I'll register you as an Internal Tester in Google Play. Then you can download and install the app by clicking here.
